The location & accommodation
The bunkhouse, which is very comfortable, is situated on the south west coast of Ulva, on the western side of Mull. The views are just stunning. Seven people can be accommodated. There is a living room, self catering kitchen, a shower and a comfortable living room. There is even a hot shower.
Trips
From the sandy beach in front of the bunkhouse, we can make some great day trips to Staffa, the Treshnish islands, around Gometra and into Loch Na Keal. There is nothing quite like paddling into Fingal's cave in a sea kayak. In the evenings and if you want to take a day off from paddling, the walking and wildlife on the island are excellent.
Wildlife
From Ulva we have a good chance of seeing the wonderful white tailed sea eagles that reside on Mull. In the past, we have seen otters on the shore, minke whales, dolphins and porpoises between Ulva and Staffa. The Treshnish isles abound in wildlife, especially puffins and seals.
Who could come?
The location suits intermediate and experienced paddlers. To make the trip worthwhile, you need to be able to paddle up to 15 miles in a day and to be relaxed about paddling in a swell and shorter waves up to 2ft. A BCU 3Star paddler would be fine for guided trips. For independent trips, BCU 4 star or equivalent would be necessary. If in doubt, call us on 01631 710173.
