British Canoe Union / Scottish Canoe Association Star tests
We encourage clients to work their way through the BCU/SCA award system.
The main advantage of achieving the Star test awards is that it calibrates your kayaking ability. You know just where you are in terms of kayaking skill and knowledge will easily be able to give other coaches and centres a clear understanding of your ability. It will help you to choose courses and holidays. And it is satisfying to have your progress formally recognised. We get a lot of satisfaction from seeing our clients progress through the system.

The Seafreedom coaching program is very similar to the Star test syllabus, but there are some differences. If you would like to do the Star tests, just let us know and we will make sure that we cover the complete syllabus for you.
We can carry out the tests and award certificates up to 3 Star and can train and arrange assessments for 4 Star.
New for 2008: the new BCU 3 Star Sea award.
This new award is a worthwhile aspiration for would be sea kayakers. Pass it, and you know that you have reached a significant milestone in your development. The syllabus covers the foundations of sea kayak competence.

Advanced training
Do you want to become an expert paddler? If so, come and paddle with Seafreedom. We have advanced conditions right on our door step and decades of experience to pass on. If you want to achieve a 5 Star certificate, you will need to attend a two day training course and an assessment at a BCU/SCA contracted centre. However, many people benefit from individualized coaching to prepare them for the assessment. Contact us to talk over your requirements.
